November 13th, 2009

Birth does not end with labor pains but takes along with it months of restless nights. Though babies sleep for fourteen to eighteen hours a during the 1st week and twelve to sixteen hours when they are definitely a month old but their cycle is irregular and most babies don’t stay asleep for over 2 to 4 hours at a time, night or day, during the initial few weeks of life that means lots of sleep for your baby and a particularly busy schedule for you. Thus it’s a smart move for mothers to sleep whenever their babies sleep. But this a particularly transient phase and after six to eight months of age babies start sleeping for brief periods in the day and sleep for long hours at night. There are particular things that will help your kid settle to sleep.

The most vital thing is to understand the signs of exhaustion. New born’s can’t stay up for over three to four hours and if you wait much longer to put him to sleep he / she’s going to be overtired and may not be in a position to sleep after that. Some children are born night owls. But the reason for it can be that they can not differentiate between night and day.

Try to keep your baby awake in the day time by playing with him. If you see him drifting off to sleep during feeding carefully tease him or make distractions. Keep the rooms well lit in the day. During the night on the other hand it’s miles better to reduce the day time noises like TV ; washing machines etc and keep the lights low. This can help your kid make the variations in few days. Put your baby down at bed time even if he is awake. Which will give him an opportunity to go to sleep on his very own. It’s vital to settle your baby in the right demeanour to guarantee good sleep. Your baby can develop good sleep habits as early as 6 weeks. The secret’s to build a consistent bedtime and sleep routine and to put your baby down to sleep at night while he’s still awake. Another result of uninterrupted sleep for moms and pops is the fear of crib death that can also lead to sleepless ness even if your baby is asleep. Thus to avoid these there are certain sleep habits that you can guarantee. You should generally put your baby down on his / her back instead of side or front side. You must also see that his feet are at the end of the cot so he will not squirm too far down under the blankets.

And intermittently check on him to make certain that his head isn’t covered by the blanket. Never put your baby down to sleep on top of a pillow as he risks rolling off it or smothering in its soft folds. By following these you’ll be doing what’s best for your youngster, and helping him form good sleep patterns is part of that. Your youngster doesn’t yet understand what’s best for him and will cry if he does not get what he wants. Your goal is to help him learn how to sleep and go to sleep alone.

However you’ll need to device a method that’s best for your kid and your families as sleep pattern in different babies are dissimilar.

A quiet feeding

A quiet feeding

Taking good care of babies is an activity that needs special attention and care from the parents. It can be accomplished with the help of certain equipments/ devices that come in handy during the nurturing of your child.

Here are a few baby care products that you need to know as parents of an infant along with how to use them effectively.

Feeding bottles

Feeding bottles are very useful when breast feeding is not possible or has been discontinued. There are various options available in the market but it is important to ensure that the plastic used is of an approved grade. They should be light in weight, easy to clean and should be able to bear heat, in case your child prefers hot milk. It is good to purchase a bottle that is smooth and remains odorless. With the help of the measuring scale marked on the bottle, you can ensure that appropriate quantity of milk is being fed to your child.

Sippers

These are useful for children of a slightly higher age group who along with milk also have a limited solid diet and require water at regular intervals, more often than babies. Here again ensure that the plastic is of an approved food grade quality. There are a variety of sippers available in the market and some of them are of the multipurpose type.

Pacifying products

If you need to buy something that will pacify your child when left to his/ her own devices, you can think of getting pacifiers available in the market that are designed like the child’s thumb that give him/ her maximum comfort. As with other plastic articles it is important to ensure the quality of the plastic being used.

Teethers

This is a product that is useful for children who are starting to grow teeth. Teething is painful and irritable for a child. To pacify your baby and provide some comfort, it is advisable to use teethers that the child can chew during the growth of teeth. These again should be of an approved grade plastic designed to provide maximum comfort to the child.

Skin care products

Babies have a soft and delicate skin that needs to be nurtured with similar products that cause no harm. Baby oil, lotions, soaps, powder etc are used for giving a child the best skin care possible. It is essential to make sure that the products you use are safe and that your child does not get rashes or allergies because of any of the products you have bought. It is advisable to find out the external factors that cause skin allergies to your infant. Consider baby skin care vital because it will be highly irritating for your child if one of your products causes discomfort. You need to use these products after bathing your baby to give him/her a fresh feeling. This will also ensure that your baby is clean and well-cared for. When you apply baby oil or powder all over your child’s body after bathing, you can understand how the body is changing and also detect abnormalities if any, in their early stage.

It is essential to use these products well for effectiveness and good results. Happy parenting!!!
