The first touch
Parenting is a thrilling experience and you need to be fully prepared to handle it satisfactorily. You need to make sure that you have all the required supplies/material while getting your child home. It is also advisable to read and research on what needs to be done when bringing home your baby. Reading about labor, the first three months after the child is born, the ways to feed and nurture will help you prepare yourself and you will not be surprised at the last minute.
Here’s a checklist of things that you need to carry to the hospital. These will be required when getting your child home for the first time after birth.
- Carry a nightgown and slippers apart from the usual footwear
- Other toiletries like soaps, tooth brush and paste
- Set of clothes that can be used while returning home from the hospital
- Set of clothes for the new born baby while getting him/her home for the first time
- Blankets, shawls and sweaters depending on the weather
- Brest feeding equipment
- Wipes and napkins to clean if required
It is also important to have supplies stored at home once the baby arrives. Make sure that you have all baby care products in place along with the essentials required for the mother’s well-being. Mothers will be busy with the baby all the time leaving little or no room for cooking and cleaning. And anyway a new mother is not expected to do that, rather she should not, as her body will be weakened by the efforts that went into delivering the child. So ensure that there is a family member or hired help to take care of these things side by side. Mothers who breast feed their new-born babies need nutrition on a large scale. So it is essential to have meals and snacks ready. This will ensure that the child also is fed well. Also mothers need to wear clean clothes at all times since they breast feed the baby creating constant skin contact between the two. Hire help for laundry so that you have freshly laundered clothes ready to use. Keep books providing baby care advice handy, in case you need any information regarding the same. You can not rely on external advice completely because taking care of a child is a learning experience and you will understand the requirements of your child gradually. As every toddler is unique, general rules may or may not apply.
Trying traditional methods along with newer ones to take care of your child can be a good idea. At the end of the day, the smile on your baby’s face will make everything worthwhile. Happy parenting!!!

A quiet feeding
Taking good care of babies is an activity that needs special attention and care from the parents. It can be accomplished with the help of certain equipments/ devices that come in handy during the nurturing of your child.
Here are a few baby care products that you need to know as parents of an infant along with how to use them effectively.
Feeding bottles
Feeding bottles are very useful when breast feeding is not possible or has been discontinued. There are various options available in the market but it is important to ensure that the plastic used is of an approved grade. They should be light in weight, easy to clean and should be able to bear heat, in case your child prefers hot milk. It is good to purchase a bottle that is smooth and remains odorless. With the help of the measuring scale marked on the bottle, you can ensure that appropriate quantity of milk is being fed to your child.
Sippers
These are useful for children of a slightly higher age group who along with milk also have a limited solid diet and require water at regular intervals, more often than babies. Here again ensure that the plastic is of an approved food grade quality. There are a variety of sippers available in the market and some of them are of the multipurpose type.
Pacifying products
If you need to buy something that will pacify your child when left to his/ her own devices, you can think of getting pacifiers available in the market that are designed like the child’s thumb that give him/ her maximum comfort. As with other plastic articles it is important to ensure the quality of the plastic being used.
Teethers
This is a product that is useful for children who are starting to grow teeth. Teething is painful and irritable for a child. To pacify your baby and provide some comfort, it is advisable to use teethers that the child can chew during the growth of teeth. These again should be of an approved grade plastic designed to provide maximum comfort to the child.
Skin care products
Babies have a soft and delicate skin that needs to be nurtured with similar products that cause no harm. Baby oil, lotions, soaps, powder etc are used for giving a child the best skin care possible. It is essential to make sure that the products you use are safe and that your child does not get rashes or allergies because of any of the products you have bought. It is advisable to find out the external factors that cause skin allergies to your infant. Consider baby skin care vital because it will be highly irritating for your child if one of your products causes discomfort. You need to use these products after bathing your baby to give him/her a fresh feeling. This will also ensure that your baby is clean and well-cared for. When you apply baby oil or powder all over your child’s body after bathing, you can understand how the body is changing and also detect abnormalities if any, in their early stage.
It is essential to use these products well for effectiveness and good results. Happy parenting!!!
